What Stockholm IT Region is doing in 2012
Stockholm is a strong and competitive IT region. Internationally prominent in the IT, internet and telecoms sectors, think tank ICF named Stockholm Intelligent Community of the Year in 2009. In 2011, the Stockholm internet and tech startup scene was covered in leading publications such as the Wall Street Journal and Wired UK, both referring to Stockholm as a tech hot spot. Several world-leading companies can be found here, but perhaps even more interesting is the abundance of high-growth enterprises in Stockholm. Stockholmers are well-educated, early adopters of new technology. Partnerships are strong among schools/academia, the public sector and business. Companies that choose Stockholm as their base are quite simply given the opportunity to work in a thrilling and developmentally rewarding environment!
But there is always room for improvement and Stockholm must respond to several challenges to remain an attractive site for business and investment. The Stockholm IT Region project has been initiated to further strengthen Stockholm as an IT region.
Our projects and activities this year
One vital function of the project is help Stockholm get better at informing about and promoting the ICT strengths found in the region. Another is to support and run development projects to enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Stockholm Region. Beyond highlighting what and who makes Stockholm interesting and competitive, members of the Stockholm IT Region has identified skills provision as focus area for the project. The strength of the Stockholm IT Region is that it gathers several key public and private sector players in the region, who are working jointly for and with general development issues.

Our online presence also extends to various social media channels, such as Twitter, Flickr and YouTube.

Stockholm IT Region breakfast seminars
Stockholm IT Region will be arranging a number of breakfast meetings focused on the various project segments. Commonly, the target audiences for the events are decision makers in private and public sector. Feel free to contact us if you want to know more about this year’s events.
SIME Stockholm 2012
Over the years, Stockholm IT Region has cooperated with a number of events and conferences. For the past three years, Stockholm IT Region has been working in partnership with SIME, which run SIME Stockholm, one of the biggest European conferences and forums dedicated to Internet and digital business opportunities. SIME Stockholm is a superb example of why Stockholm is an interesting IT city and in 2012 Stockholm IT Region will, in various ways, be supporting and participating in SIME conferences here in Stockholm and elsewhere around Europe.
Transfer Teknik IT
Stockholm IT Region is funding the Transfer Teknik IT initiative. The initiative will make it possible for a couple of thousand young people to meet representatives of the IT sector. The goal is to strengthen connections between secondary schools and business in order to capture young people’s interest in the ICT industry at an early stage.
Stockholm IT Region is also running a number internal projects and activities directed at members of the project, such as network and information meetings. In addition, we will add more projects to the list above list during the course of 2012.
